MacBook Pro earns “Best in Class” from Maximum Computer

June 30, 2008

When Maximum Personal computer pit the MacBook Pro against the Dell XPS M1530, Apple’s pro notebook walked away the clear winner. Awarding MacBook Pro an impressive score of 9 (out of 10), editors praised its thinness (calling it “impressive next to other notebooks in its class”), its fast GeForce 8600M GT graphic processor, its “top-notch” Intel processor, and its battery life. It also found Mac OS X “really, really slick.” Via [apple]

Complete My Album is selling music

June 30, 2008

I was just as much a naysayer as Dave was when the service first came out (and for the record, I haven’t used it all either), but apparently there are lots of people who do use Apple’s “Complete My Album” service in iTunes — the NYT states that it has become a prime selling tool, especially for bands and labels that pre-release singles… Continue reading

Brother MFC-6490CW Printer

Brother’s MFC-6490CW is an all-in-one color inkjet printer that offers color printing, faxing, and scanning into a single device, supporting extra large printing as well. It won’t break the bank with a $300 price tag, and will help you save lots of dough in the long run since you no longer need to run to the printers if you ever need 11″ x 17″ ledger prints. Great for scanning massive amounts of text as well instead of being limited to just A4/letter sizes. Being wireless, it is… Continue reading

Moments before our Macworld 2008 interview with Paul Kafasis he told me about the one-of-a-kind way the demo CDs they were giving out worked. What’s the main problem with software on CDs? Those apps are suspended in amber, frozen in time, and many other overused metaphors. The fine folks at Rogue Amoeba make living, breathing code. They don’t stop updating it for a second, and they wanted to make… Continue reading

Launch preparations: Apple as reportedly ordered 17M handsets, which is huge of course, but given the anticipation and the much lower price point, it’s likely that they will sell all that. … Continue reading

‘Tis superior to give than to receive, so Apple is giving some legal love by filing trademark and fraud suits against Portage, Michigan businessman Nicholas Woodhams.

Woodhams operates an on the web iPod repair business called iPod Mechanic. Apple claims they asked Woodhams to halt using the iPod trademark back in 2006 and that the celebrations came to an agreement to have Woodhams stop using the iPod Mechanic name in January, 2007 and park the ipodmechanic.com domain name two months later. Apple says those… Continue reading

Canadian iPhone: Consumer Revolt against Rogers tariffs

June 30, 2008

When Rogers/Fido announced the iPhone voice/data plans a few days ago, the proposed rates were not received warmly. Over ten thousand people are letting their eDispleasure be heard on the “Rogers + iPhone3G == Ruined” protest website.
