“The new iPhone is wonderful”
July 31, 2008
“It’s hard to be a tech reviewer if products arrive pretty close to perfect,” laments Mark Kellner (washingtontimes.com). But he admits to being “very impressed” with iPhone 3G: “The phone performs very well, e-mail is a breeze, and as a music player, the iPhone-in-iPod mode has no equal.” Via [apple]

The strange economy of the App Store

A few App Store apps have already gotten the public browbeating for tweaking their prices, and here’s another: as Johnathan notes, there’s a new app on the top of the heap in the paid pile, and apparently the only reason “Units Convertor” (sic) is there is because it used to be free.We can’t necessarily call them out for switching just to…… Continue reading
Dialectic provides system-wide dialing
July 31, 2008
As a fan of his EntourageABMenu utility, I was pleased to discover that developer Jon Nathan has a new item in his kit: Dialectic, a phone dialing tool that has more tricks than a magician’s convention. Dialectic replaces the older Jon’s Phone Tool and provides a bridge between almost any Mac PIM or database (including Address Book, Entourage, Now Contact, Daylite and more) and phone dialing via VoIP systems, hardware dialers, modems, Skype and other voice chat apps, Bluetooth-enabled cellphones…… Continue reading
Dell S2409W LCD Monitor
July 31, 2008
Dell has let slip a new LCD monitor in the form of the 24″ S2409W, switching from the 16:10 aspect ratio to a wider 16:9. While this results in a lower resolution of 1,920 x 1,080, it makes it perfect for folks who want to catch movies on the Blu-ray format using their PC (which is obviously equipped with a Blu-ray drive). An HDMI input also makes this a mouth watering proposition to hook up your Xbox 360 or PS3 directly, letting you enjoy… Continue reading

Beverly Hills, 90210 is a show that is near and dear to many people’s hearts… at least I assume so, because how else do you explain this Beverly Hills, 90210 limited edition iPod nano? CBS is selling 2000 of these suckers for $269. For your money you get an 8 gig iPod nano engraved with a picture of the 90210 cast and a slogan of your choice (as long as it is 30 characters or less) and… Continue reading

I’ve seen a lot of fun accelerometer uses in the App Store so far, but this is probably the coolest — Dynolicious will actually use your iPhone’s accelerometer to determine all kinds of stuff about how awesome your ‘92 Subaru is, from 0-60 and 1/4 mile time up to lateral Gs and horsepower. Just… Continue reading
App roundup: Timekeeping and billing
July 31, 2008
When I started freelancing last November, I knew I needed to get my act together about billing. I have a love/hate relationship with billing: I love getting paid, but I hate doing billing.
Thankfully, there are many, many apps that help you do this. If you’re just starting out, you might be a tiny overwhelmed at just how many ways there are to track your time. This tiny post here isn’t meant to be a comprehensive list, but instead a place for freelancers to start looking for…… Continue reading
iPhone 3G Experiences Cracks
July 30, 2008

The iPhone 3G might be shiny and new, but that doesn’t make it exempt from cracks in the plastic finish, much to the disgust of once proud owners. It seems as though these cracks are most common in the white 16GB models of the phone, but that could be due to the fact that cracks are easier to detect visually in a white model compared to the black version. Either that, or it could be a quality control issue, as with the case of the… Continue reading
