Check your email, iPhone developers. Apple has released iPhone OS 2.1 beta 3. Dear Auntie TUAW: AppStore Rejection

August 9, 2008

Dear Auntie TUAW,

Hi, I’ve been keeping track of a game that was supposed to be released in the App Store this week called [REDACTED]. Me and many other people are ticked at how Apple spends time approving apps like “I Am Rich” and other pointless apps while they DENIED my app because the toolbar (pen, eraser etc) wasn’t at the bottom on the screen!! How pointless is that? Many people have been waiting for this app and it [saddens] us how apple approves tons of pointless apps a day but denies a very nice looking app, all because the tool… Continue reading

iUseThis: iPhone app popularity ratings

August 7, 2008

iUseThis.com’s new iPhone app ratings pages let you browse for software based on other user’s recommendations. It’s basically a Digg for iPhone apps. It offers new releases, new apps, top apps and reviews. Just started, the site is building up steam and users. When last I checked, it still had fewer than 200 apps listed. But given the growth of the iPhone application space, this site shows early promise should it manage to attract… Continue reading

Ars: Jobs agrees MobileMe not up to Apple’s standards

August 5, 2008

How often does Apple admit a mistake? It’s a once-in-a-blue-iMoon occurrence, but now that Ars Technica is reporting the contents of an internal Steve Jobs all-hands email regarding the MobileMe launch challenges we have the ability to add one more instance to the tally board. Jobs apparently acknowledges that trying to rush the MobileMe migration while pushing iPhone 3G hardware and iPhone 2.0 software out the door (not to mention the iTunes App Store) may have been too much… Continue reading

TechCrunch is reporting that Foxconn (the Taiwanese Apple manufacturing plant) is building over 800,000 iPhones per week in order to meet demand. They’re also reporting that this means the plant is working “above current full capacity” and notes that the quality control might not be the ideal at this time.
